Dear Lord!

For Christ’s sake. It’s been a while since I’ve been here, isn’t? After looking at the blog stats I don’t feel really excited with the results. Not a single visit in weeks XD

Anyways, I’ve just found out better ways to create the podcast and got myself a microphone. Nevertheless, I think I’ll wait for December for the podcast. Not sure about it. Maybe I’ve got to ask Jackie her opinion. I wonder if the podcast will be good enough if we record the show using Skype? I’ve seen (or heard) a few podcasts in which people record their talk in programs like Skype and the result is not very good.

So, returning to the main subject of the blog, I faced myself with this Google Project which caught my attention. I think you already know about it, but I just felt like passing the information on too. The project, which is called Project 10 to the 100th. They intend to gather people’s idea and make the best of them true with an astonishing budget of US$ 10 million!!!

Alongside with Jackie we entered one of her projects to Google 10 to the 100th and we intend to send another one. Still in work though in enhancement status.

Une autre chose! Browsing some blogs in my bloglist I just found this one. The Big Picture, from boston.com is a Photography blog. Wonderful images, worth a visit. I think I’m gonna add them to my blogroll.

Update about the podcast

Hello! Another update

I’ve still didn’t write the about me and about the blog pages but soon this session will be updated as well. Probably in a few hours from now. I struggling to find some good material to talk about to. I wonder if it’s good enough to start this new series of posts regarding the problem of inequalities in Brazil’s major cities comparing with other countries from the so called ‘3rd world’.

Also I’d like to start talking about the presidential run in the US and how this impacts in other societies. Probably this is going to be the subject from the first podcast of this blog. Right now, I’m looking for interesting people to join the subject and the result by now is quite good. People from Canada, people who lived in the US and people like me are going to participate this podcast, at least in the first episode.

I wonder though if we’re going to be able to record the show in the next weeks. I said that because I still have to practice the recording softwares and manage to get a day to the recording in which all the people involved are able to participate in it.

Also, I’m still digging the process to upload the podcast into a podcast directory, recording quality issues and editing. I know it’s not that difficult but quality is of utmost importance for me

I’ve just came with the idea to create a custom header. And why not with a photograph?

So, it’s cool, it’s clean, it shows the blog main idea, which is now to talk about global issues but always comparing it within a local scale.

I hope it’s not too fancy XD

how about podcasting?

Just came from a friend’s place and we’ve talked about starting a podcasting. This idea I had came while listening to some podcasts and after realise this would be a great idea and bring an interesting content in a different way. Of course I’d still write in the blog but there would be a newer touch and the presence of this friend of mine.

Right now we’re in idle but we’re gonna write things down on paper first and choose some subjects to talk about to. The main idea of the blog though will remain as the leading subject. We think this is going to be fun too and it’s also a way to improve out technical journalist skills

A little update about the blog situation

Even though I might sound a little bit cocky saying this, but I’m here today to talk about the few blogs updates and what I think I should be writing from now on.

Currently you can see now some RSS Feed in the right column of the blog. My intention is to share a lot of important links from websites about culture, human development, humanitarian decisions and the life in the city. I have a reason for that, don’t worry, I’m gonna explain it right now.

I’ve always wanted to talk and write about the big problems in the world and think about solutions to them. It looks like the best way to do this right now is to share this idea obviously. My intention is to do some analysis under the humanitarian crisis in the big cities, based on international documents, forums, papers, articles, everything that is related to the ideal of sharing knowledge.

Of course I will write about other things in general sometime, but the main focus is going to be the human life and social relationships in its whole.

The inspiration of this came while organizing my bookmarks in del.icio.us and I found an article about the condition of people in the greatest slums around the world, be it in Rio de Janeiro or in Mumbai. Also, I’m currently working in a thesis about the cordiality in the Bahian society, but not the cordiality as something good, instead a cordiality like a bad thing for the self development.

Many issues I think will be shared in this blog. Later I’m going to update the about me and about the blog sessions, with a more specific content and more organized.

I wonder…

I wonder if I still have to write in here.

It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that it feels quite difficult to read/watch animes/study and write in 3 blogs

I have to confess sometimes I feel like posting something in here but I just give up. Maybe I’m not suitable for a SurvivorMan? XD It’s not that, I’m sure about it.

I think my major problem is lack of discipline and that may affect my development in writing in many aspects. Even though I read a lot of “how to be better in work and personal life” stuff, it just feels wrong to keep following these guides with a keen motivation. Also there’s the time or lack of time. I’d really like to keep writing a lot in here, but it just seems wrong sometimes.

There’s one more thing though I should confess. It feels awesome to write in English. As I said in my first post I think (too lazy to check now) when we write in the english language it’s possible to get out texts to more readers and practice a little too.

Probably the biggest problem in blogging nowadays is that people (including me) can’t keep track of what they’re going REALLY write. So I think this blog has to to redefine itself. I’ve gotta choose something to write. Not to expect something really good is gonna happen, but only to have a proper identity. People blog about technology, others about blogging, so what should I write? I won’t give answers to these questions right now, but I’m sure I’m gonna find them out in a short time.

As for now, I say ‘cya’ And soon, you’ll see, better news will come, not just some bullshit from a distant and unknown foreign guy.

What do we do to achieve our dreams?

Hi all! This time I came not to answer things but to ask them. The question is: What do we do to achieve our own dreams? or What ways do we take to make things possible?

I wonder if it is possible to achieve our dreams when they’re really big and distant from our current condition. I’m not saying that I’m a pessimist or something like that, it’s just that we have to feel the ground we’re standing in and really ask ourselves what do we do to make things come true.

Dreams are not something we should be afraid of, but indeed, it’s hard to see them as something good and easy to reach when they are so far away. It is as though we pinpoint places to go around the universe when we’re not even able to stay in the moon safely. Ok ok, let’s get rid of this Reductio Ad Absurdum stuff for now, or things are going to get worse.

Again, what I’m trying to show in these words is how do we feel and how do we act to reach our goals? It’s not easy, as many people say, and it demands a lot of training and hard study. Be it in languages or in someone’s career, many obstacles will appear in front of us, and that’s the place the faint little evil voice that says ‘give up’ lives in.

I’m not saying that I will give up on my plans at all, but I just think we have to give a lot of care on how we think and plan our future.

Something to read

As usual, for any of my vacations, I tried to start to read something today. And while digging for some book in my little library I found a book I bought many months ago but as a matter of fact I didn’t read it.

It’s a classic indeed, and it’s in British English, but not only that, the language is very difficult and I think that’s the reason why I dropped the book in the moment I started to read it months ago. Shakespeare has always been one of the biggest writers for me (and for half of the population =D) and even in Portuguese it’s not very easy to read his works.

But I know that I’ve got to do a lot of reading if I intend to learn English in it’s totality, although that’s impossible because languages are in constant change  always. I think you got my point, though.

I’ve to say that what I learned about English it’s thanks to my own perseverance. My urgency to speak English dates back when I was little actually, and although my family don’t speak other languages at all I feel great to teach them some tips sometimes and to contribute with other people’s English practice.

I won’t change the subject drastically so let’s back to main idea of the post. Reading in English has always been grateful for me. Be it news, blogs, books or watching TV, it’s always a pleasure to discover different words and the same feeling takes place when I’m in my french classes.

I think reading in another language can not only give you a bigger idea of what you need to learn in that language, but it gives you the chance to read more books Just think of it, not all the books in the human history are in Portuguese, or English, or French, but English has a lot of books and if you are a reading addicted the chance to get closer to all the books ever made is better.

There are both British and American authors for example which books cannot be found here in Brazil. So, the possibility to read something about them is also greater.

Another great example of the greatness of the English language (please Portuguese speaks do not be mad about this, because I do love our language ) is when you got to read international news. For instance, there are wonderful and with great credibility journalism websites such as BBC’s and CNN’s. For those who enjoy and give a chance to international news and that think they’re important in our everyday lives these sites are what it lacks to your bookmark.

Of course they’re widely known, but I say one never knows

Those who want to learn a different language in Brazil, or anywhere in the world, have no excuse of lack of material and guidelines, etc. The web is here for everyone, well, not everyone, well you may count the 40 million Brazilian people with internet access, that’s a good amount.

Later I might write about why we should learn another language. For now, that’s it.

Brief idea

Such a good Monday this was and it’s still in time for great surprises, I wonder.

After getting the first comment in the blog by my friend Jackie, from Canada, I got motivated to post once again in the blog. Unfortunately, stress and depression is something that still lives with me in my daily life, and I still try to find ways to battle it.

I won’t continue to talk here about depression, not in this post though. I’d rather talk about information and knowledge. Assuming information is the data you acquire by reading or watching TV, or even browsing the website you like the most, that doesn’t mean you are absorbing knowledge. Just to write a sentence about it might look simple, but if we really dig this concept and try to assimilate the differences between information and knowledge, we might live good lives.

That different actually is the biggest thing people lack to realise. After accessing some data and sending to your neural network we must rethink of the subject, ask questions about it and extract a common idea from it. There’s an inside feeling warning me to explain this in better words, so let me do it.

When someone is on a survival situation he or she must think actively. But, BUT, one might not use the information around him/her as sole guideline to this survival. In war terms, generals and other people from this high ranks collect data and process it. Some reader might think this kind of talk just another bullshit from the Internet, but that’s not my dear padawan.

I won’t get into this subject much longer by now because time is against me, but I think this brief idea have showed you a little skill in surviving.

Quick tip of the day 01 [updated]

Just after posting the text about Learning I went to the BBC World Service website to find some interesting thing to listen to. And so I faced myself with the programme Outlook.

If you go to the Tuesday 1st July programme, there’s an interesting interview with documentary filmmaker Sean Langan telling about his frightfull experience of a three month kidnap in Pakistan, while filming the Taleban training camps. It appears that he and his translator were taken hostage by the militants which ironically he intended to interview.

His interview is in the first part of the show, so you don’t need to wait a lof of time to get listen his testimonial, but the rest of the show is quite good too.
